EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team ran into a strong front-line and couldn't get past East Stroudsburg University Tuesday night, falling 3-0 on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at Kohler Fieldhouse.
Kutztown's closest set was its last. Trailing 23-21, KU rattled off back-to-back points to tie the set at 23-all. Following an ESU timeout, the Warriors pressured KU at the net to force a KU error and a match-point opportunity. Both teams competed in a lengthy final point, but the Golden Bears fell on the wrong side of the final touch.
Brittney Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain (Lock Haven)) had a team-high nine kills, while
Holly Owen (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) added four. Senior
Madisyn Kleinfelter (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) led KU at the setter position with 12 assists and three digs.
Defensively,
Sydney Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) continued her terrific freshman campaign with 20 digs on the backline.
East Stroudsburg hit .219 and tallied 10 blocks to lead it to victory. Sarah Smith had 11 kills and 13 digs to lead the way offensively. Sam Dunphy and Desiree Claxton each had nine kills.
The Golden Bears return to Keystone Arena after three weeks on the road. KU hosts Lock Haven University on Friday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. at Keystone Arena.
