Lee’s Layup with 2.2 Seconds Left Completes No. 19 KU’s Comeback at Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington)'s layup with 2.2 seconds remaining capped a 6-0 run over the final 1:33 as the No. 19 Kutztown University men's basketball team stormed back to stun Lock Haven, 83-82, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play on Friday night at Thomas Fieldhouse.

Facing its largest deficit of the night, 82-77, Ryan Connolly (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) began the comeback with a 3-pointer before making 1-of-2 at the free throw line to cut the deficit to just one with 49 seconds to go.

Needing one more stop, KU (6-2 PSAC, 10-2) forced a Lock Haven miss only to have a Bald Eagle grab the offensive rebound, but Ethan Ridgeway (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) stole the ball and drove the length of the court to set up Lee for the game-winner.

That assist gave Ridgeway 10 for the night, and he added 18 points for what was his second consecutive double-double and third of the season. He became the eighth player, and just the third junior, in program history to surpass 300 career assists, as he also moved into seventh place by finishing the night with 304 for his career.

With eight rebounds, Ridgeway fell one board shy of his career-high and two short of a triple-double.

Lee's game-winner gave him 21 points for the night, one shy of a season-high and his third straight scoring output of at least 19 points. He went 4-of-4 from the line and made 3-of-4 from 3-point range, while also grabbing five rebounds and recording his sixth consecutive game with at least two steals.

Dan Cuevas (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) had a career-night, leading all players with career-highs of 23 points and nine rebounds. He shot 10-of-13 from the field and added two assists, one block and one steal.

Notably, Josh Johnson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) scored eight points to move into sixth place in program history with 1,419 for his career.

Kutztown surpassed 50 percent shooting for the second straight contest, making 32-of-63 from the field (50.8 percent) to improve to 5-0 this season when it eclipses the mark. The Maroon and Gold also dominated down low, outscoring LHU 50-30 in the paint.

Lock Haven (2-6, 6-6) was led by Amir Hinton, who matched Cuevas with 23 points. Jihad Barnes and Ra'eese Hunt chipped in with 15 points each.

KU led by as many as eight when Cuevas made a layup just 1:38 before the halftime horn to make the score 43-35, but Lock Haven closed the half on a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to three at the break. The Golden Bears would hold onto the advantage until Hinton tied the game with a 3-pointer at the 8:30 mark. LHU took the lead back for the first time in the second half with yet another trifecta just 28 seconds later, and after Cuevas answered with a layup, a Khaleeq Campbell layup with 6:39 left gave the Bald Eagles a lead it would hold onto until Lee's layup.

Kutztown continues to match last year's team for its best start since beginning the 2009-10 season 14-0. The Maroon and Gold return to Keystone Arena on Monday, Jan. 9 to host Cheyney at 7:30 p.m.
