ALTOONA, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team won 2-of-3 matches on Sunday, including winning the ninth-place match, to cap an 8-4 weekend at the Red Flash Invitational, hosted by Saint Francis University (PA).
The Golden Bears (32-41) opened the day with a 4-2 setback to Morgan State, but rallied with a 4-3 win over Saint Peter's and a 4-3 win over 21st-ranked Saint Francis Brooklyn.
In its opening match vs. Morgan State, KU led 2-0 early on, but Morgan State caught fire to win the come-from-behind match, 4-2.
Against Saint Peter's, KU was forced to a seventh game. KU ended the match with its best score of the day – a 213 – in a 4-3 win to put KU in the ninth-place match.
Against No. 21 Saint Francis Brooklyn, KU pulled off its biggest comeback of the day. It overcame a 3-1 deficit and won three matches in a row, including a 220 and a 226 in the final two games, to pull off the 4-3 win to earn ninth place.
Felicia Trievel (Reading, Pa./Wilson) led the team with a 19.38 frame average over 40 frames.
Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) was second at 18.03,
Renee Riffey (Glen Burnie, Md./North County) was third at 17.9,
Angela Kozma (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) was fourth at 17.7 and
Ella Luzzi (Spring Lake, N.J./Manasquan) was fifth at 17.3.
Kutztown returns to action next Friday, Feb. 3, with matches against Chestnut Hill at Bowl-O-Rama in Reading, Pa.
