ALTOONA, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team closed out its first day of competition at the Red Flash Invitational on Friday with back-to-back victories to go 3-2, notably defeating No. 20 Norfolk State for a second straight weekend, 909-850, in the first match of the day.
Despite the impressive start, KU unfortunately fell short in its next two matches against No. 21 Saint Francis Brooklyn, 964-854, and Morgan State, 908-740.
The Maroon and Gold quickly bounced back to close out Friday's matches with two victories though.
First up was Penn State Altoona, whom the Golden Bears defeated with a commanding score of 869-682.
In the final match of the day, Kutztown picked up a hard-earned win over Pitt-Bradford by a score of 869-837 to close out the day with a 3-2 record.
Felicia Trievel (Reading, Pa./Wilson) and
Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) posted respective frame averages of 18.67 (50 frames) and 17.89 (48) to pace KU on the day. In the field of 17 teams, the Golden Bears currently sit in ninth place – just one game behind the fourth spot.
The Maroon and Gold will resume action tomorrow, Jan. 28, for the second day of the Red Flash Invitational.
