READING, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team went 2-4 – most notably defeating No. 20 Norfolk State - as it competed against four ranked teams on the first day of the KU Invitational at Hiester Lanes on Friday.
After dropping its opening match, 768-811, to No. 22 North Carolina A&T, KU bounced back with its highest total of the day in a 919-791 win over Pitt-Bradford.
Kutztown then faced another ranked opponent in No. 16 Tulane, which it fell to by a score of 854-991. Afterwards, the Golden Bears battled against Chestnut Hill before eventually losing 890-925.
KU would respond with its win over Norfolk State, eclipsing 890 once again in an 892-881 triumph.
Kutztown closed the day with one of its toughest tests of the season in No. 6 Vanderbilt, who led the field with a 209.6 average on the day. The Maroon and Gold proved to be a tough test for the Commodores but would fall short, 882-905.
KU is in 22nd out of 26 teams after the first day of action.
Day two of the KU Invitational continues tomorrow at 9:30 with the Golden Bears set to face three more ranked opponents in their six matches.
