Complete Game Notes
SERIES HISTORY: Saturday marks the 90th meeting between the Golden Bears and the Marauders, dating back to 1903 for KU's oldest rivalry. KU has won the last six matchups by an average margin of 37.3 points. Despite its recent struggles against the Golden Bears, Millersville holds a 57-29-3 advantage in the head-to-head series.
COACH TO CURE MD: Head coach
Jim Clements will join over 10,000 college football coaches from around the country this Saturday, Sept. 24, in support of the AFCA's Coach To Cure Muscular Dystrophy program. AFCA members will wear a Coach To Cure MD logo patch on the sidelines, and college football fans are asked to donate to research projects supported by Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy. Football fans can donate to Duchenne muscular dystrophy research by either going online to www.CoachtoCureMD.org or by texting the word CURE to 90999 (a $5 donation will automatically be added to your next phone bill).
LAST WEEK: KU featured its second- and third-string quarterback, showed signs of offensive production in the second half, but a large first-half deficit – courtesy of Seton Hill's prolific passing attack – downed the Golden Bears 44-22 last Saturday on the road. KU relied on running back
Craig Reynolds (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) for its production, while Seton Hill amassed 697 yards of total offense, 517 through the air.
SACK LUNCH: Kutztown averages 3.00 sacks per game, its best since posting 3.1 in 1997 (31 sacks in 10 games). The highlight of this year was KU's eight sacks against Mercyhurst on Sept. 10, the most for the program since it had nine on Sept. 6, 1997 against West Virginia Wesleyan.
THE REYNOLDS RAP: Craig Reynolds (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) is coming off back-to-back 100-yard games and a career-high 178 rushing yards and two touchdowns at Seton Hill. At 123.7 yards per game, he holds the best average for KU since 1997, when Emneko Sweeney averaged an identical 123.7. Reynolds ranks second in the PSAC in rushing yards, second in yards-per-carry at 7.57, third in all-purpose yards at 175.67 and fifth in rushing touchdowns with four.
100-YARD RUNNER: Craig Reynolds (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) has run for 100+ yards in back-to-back games, a first for KU since 2014. The last time KU had a back post three consecutive 100-yard rushing games was in 2001, when Yorel Prosser opened the season with three-in-a-row.
KELLEN'S CORNER: Kellen Williams (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg), a two-time All-PSAC East wide receiver, co-leads the PSAC this season with four receiving touchdowns. He has three double-digit catch games in his career, seven 100-yard receiving performances, and has caught a pass in 31-of-35 career games.
PART-IN ME: Troy Parton (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury) leads the PSAC with 8.7 receptions per game. Two weeks ago, he hauled in a career-high 15 catches against Mercyhurst, a career-high and two shy of tying the school-record.
PERRY'S PICKS: Jake Perry (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) hauled in his first two career interceptions last week at Seton Hill. KU has three interceptions this year after having six all of last year.
LOOKING FOR FIRST WIN: Kutztown and Lock Haven are the final two PSAC teams looking for their first wins of the season.
MAGIC NUMBER = 24: KU head coach
Jim Clements is 10-1 in his Kutztown career when holding opponents to 24 or fewer points. His only loss was to Mercyhurst earlier this season (L, 19-23).
MOVING FORWARD: Kutztown has rushed for 100 or more yards in 11 straight games, dating back to 2015. Under head coach
Jim Clements, KU is 11-6 when rushing for triple-digit yardage.
STOPPING THE RUN: KU's success under second-year head coach
Jim Clements has stood true with its defensive ability to stop the run. Under Clements, KU is 8-1 when holding its opponent to less than 100 yards rushing. His only loss was to Mercyhurst earlier this year.
SENIOR RB DUO: Senior running backs
Darrell Scott (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) and
James Wah Jr. (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) are in the midst of their senior seasons. Having split carries for most of their careers, the duo has combined for 2,463 career rushing yards and 21 touchdowns to go along with 61 combined games of experience.
DEFENSIVE LEADER: Zack Delp (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) has made 26 consecutive starts at linebacker for KU. A two-time All-PSAC selection, Delp has notched 10 or more tackles in 11 games in his career, including the last two weeks this season. He leads KU with 29 tackles this season, third in the PSAC at 9.7 per game, and ranks 13th all-time at KU with 234 career tackles and 14th with 12.5 sacks.
SENSATIONAL SOPHOMORE: Tajier Jefferson (East Orange, N.J./Queen of Peace), the returning PSAC East Freshman of the Year, is second on KU with 25 tackles. He has three career 10+ tackle games. Last year, he had 70 tackles in his first year on the field, the most by a KU freshman in more than 20 years, and ranked in the top-five in the PSAC with 16 TFL.
