READING, Pa. – The Kutztown University baseball team ended its season on a high note, collecting a 4-3 win in its season-finale, non-conference match up with local Albright College at the Fighting Phils' FirstEnergy Stadium on Monday evening.

For KU's Eric Moul (Hanover, Pa./South Western), Brady McNab (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood (Frederick C.C.)), Matt Swarmer (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin), Dave King (Zerbe, Pa./Minersville), Bobby Reddick (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn (Northampton C.C.)) and Paul Piromalli (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West (Mercer County C.C.)), it will mark the last time they will be able to pull on the Golden Bear jersey.

Kutztown (20-31) found itself down 3-2 heading into bottom of the seventh when one of its most unlikely heroes with the bat came up to the plate.

Swarmer, a four-year pitcher with just four career at-bats, came up with the bases loaded and reached on an error to drive in Tanner Miller (Elizabethville, Pa./Upper Dauphin) to tie the game at three.  KU took the lead during its next at-bat, as Eric Lane (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) hit a towering sacrifice fly to left to score Kyle Rogers (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) and put the Golden Bears ahead 4-3.

The game was called in the bottom of the eighth due to lightning in the area.  After a meeting between the coaching staffs, it was determined KU would earn the victory.  Matt Matricardi (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) (2-2) picked up the win while Anthony Atticks (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township (Harford C.C.)) notched his first career save.

For the seniors, Moul started the game with a perfect, scoreless inning and Reddick added another scoreless inning of work in relief.  Usually a starting pitcher, Piromalli went 1-for-1, collecting his first career base hit in his final colligate at-bat.

Kutztown started the scoring, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second off a ground out by Bo Rottet (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) to score Joe Santospago (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood (Mercer County C.C.)).  Albright responded with one run in the top of the fourth and two more in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.  KU pushed across a run in the fifth off a wild pitch that score Derian Sarlat (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) to cut it to 3-2 and to set the stage for Swarmer and Lane.

Swarmer finishes his career with a 12-11 record with a 3.11 ERA and 224 strikeouts over 171 innings pitched, the sixth-most career strikeouts of all-time.  His 63 appearances tie Justin Jachowicz (2005-08) for fourth-most games pitched in program history.  Swarmer also notched 14 saves over his career, third-most in KU history.

McNab finishes his KU career with a .272 batting average, 94 hits, four home runs and 56 RBIs.

King finishes his career with a 4-1 record and four saves.  Piromalli (8-9, 4.28 ERA) ends his career on a high note, winning three of his last five decisions.  Moul finishes his career with a 2-2 record over 27 appearances.  Reddick closes his career with a 3-8 record over 17 appearances.

Due to an injury, Clay Sebesky (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) will also be graduating from the program but did not play this season.

Since the local-series began at FirstEnergy Stadium in 2003, the Golden Bears hold a 10-2 record against Albright, including a 104-37 advantage in scoring over that time (the teams did not play in 2009 or 2011).

The Golden Bears finish their season with a 20-31 record and a 9-19 mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).  Kutztown had a young roster, and will only lose one position player and five pitchers (including two starters).  The Golden Bears had nine freshmen contributors who made at least 20 starts, led by Rottet (.243 with 18 RBIs and 20 runs scored over 49 starts) and Lane (.282 with three home runs, 11 RBIs and 14 runs scored over 28 starts/38 games played).  The 2017 pitching staff will be led by Mike Kammerer (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) (2-3, 36 strikeouts over 31.1 innings pitched).
