Baseball Falls in Non-Conference Game at St. Thomas Aquinas

Box Score Coming Soon

POMONA, N.Y., - A Brady McNab (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood (Frederick C.C.)) solo-home run in the top of the fifth inning was the only scoring the Kutztown University baseball team could muster, falling 4-1 in a non-conference game against Saint Thomas Aquinas College Tuesday afternoon at Provident Bank Park.

St. Thomas Aquinas (24-9) jumped out to a 1-0 in the bottom of the first before McNab's homer tied it at one in the fifth.  The Spartans responded with two runs in the sixth and added one more in the eighth to retake the lead.  The Golden Bears (18-24, 8-12 PSAC) had six hits on the day, but only one in the final four innings as the Spartans closed out their 4-1 win.

KU used five different pitchers over the course of the game, with starter Peter Masterson (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) going three innings, allowing one earned run with three strikeouts.  Anthony Atticks (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township (Harford C.C.)) followed him with two scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits and striking out one.  Dave King (Zerbe, Pa./Minersville) also added a scoreless inning of relief.

McNab finished the day 3-for-4.  Justin Afflerbach (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) went 1-for-2.  Alec O'Dell (Edgewood, Md./West Chester Bayard Rustin (Harford C.C.)) and Eric Lane (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) had the other KU hits on the afternoon.

The Spartans' Scott Hannon improved to 5-0 on the year, throwing three scoressless innings in relief with one hit allowed to pick up the victory.

Kutztown resumes PSAC play with a weekend season-series against Bloomsburg University (20-18, 7-13 PSAC), April 22-23.  KU's Senior Day will take place on Saturday, April 23 at North Campus Field, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.

KU sits fifth in the PSAC East heading into the weekend, a game out of the final playoff spot.  The Golden Bears have eight PSAC games left in the regular-season.
