WILSON, N.C. - The Kutztown University baseball team couldn't have asked for much better of a start to its spring break trip after collecting a 4-3, extra-inning victory over Clarion University, Friday in Wilson N.C.
Mike White (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) started off the top of the 10th with a deep triple to right field and was later driven home by a
Derian Sarlat (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) single two batters later to give KU the 4-3 win.
Pitcher
Pat Flynn (Pottstown, Pa./West-Mont Christian Academy) continued his strong outing in relief, and set the side down in order in the bottom half of the 10th to seal the victory.
The Golden Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead through five, but a strong sixth inning by Clarion knotted it back at three before Sarlat's late-game heroics.
Mike Milazzo (Titusville, N.J./Notre Dame) led Kuztown (4-6) with two RBIs, finishing the day 1-for-4.
Brady McNab (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood (Frederick C.C.)) went 3-for-6 with an RBI. Sarlat, who came off the bench in the bottom of the ninth inning as a defensive replacement, singled and drove in the winning run in his only at-bat of the evening.
Bo Rottet (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) went 2-for-5 with a run scored. Flynn threw 2.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts in relief to pick up his first victory of the season.
John Finke went 3-for-5 with a run scored for Clarion (0-1).
The Golden Bears return to action Saturday, March 5 against West Virginia State at 4 p.m. and follow it with a 7 p.m. game against Fairmont State. Both games will be played at Fleming Stadium.
Kutztown plays 11 games over the next eight days during its trip.
