READING, Pa. – Kutztown University was the top-seed for Saturday's final day of the 2016 and inaugural East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Bowling Championships at Hiester Lanes in Reading. It won a pair of matches, but ran into a hotter Adelphi team that downed the Golden Bears twice, including in the conference championship match.
 
Kutztown (73-46) got a bye in Saturday's first round and opened the day with a 4-2 win over Felician. Adelphi defeated KU 4-2 the following match, sending AU to the final and KU into a rematch with Felician with the winner joining Adelphi in the final.
 
KU turned in a strong 4-0 win over Felician in the ECC semifinal and would need to defeat Adelphi twice in the double-elimination tournament to earn the inaugural title. Unfortunately for KU, Adelphi kept its foot on the gas through the finish with a 4-1 win to upset the Golden Bears for the second time of the day and win the ECC Championship.
 
Kutztown had three bowlers named to the All-Tournament Team, all of which were named All-ECC First Team selections on Friday. Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley), Taylor Strothmann (Maywood, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) and Lauren Stamm (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) were all named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
Adelphi's Rebecca Gotterbarn was named the Tournament MVP. Joining Kutztown's trio on the All-Tournament Team was Jessica Davies of Franklin Pierce, and Laura Zaugg and Lena Sorrentino of Adelphi.
 
Kutztown, ranked 15th in the nation, finishes the year with 73 wins and is set to graduate seven seniors. It expects to return an All-ECC bowler and the co-Rookie of the Year in 2016-17 with sights surely set on winning a conference title.
