NORRISTOWN, Pa. - The Kutztown University baseball team ran into superb pitching by Chestnut Hill College, and dropped both games of its doubleheader by scores of 8-0 and then 3-1 Wednesday at Latshaw-McCarthy Field.
The starters for Chestnut Hill combined to throw 13 innings, allowing just six hits and one earned run with nine strikeouts over both games of the afternoon.
Chestnut Hill (8-9) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning of game one, and went on to cruise to an 8-0 victory. Starter Andrew Sibson threw a complete-game to pick up his second win of the year.
Kutztown (10-12) found itself down 3-0 heading into the top of the sixth in game two, with Chestnut Hill pushing across runs in the bottom half of the second, third and fourth inning. The Golden Bears got back into it in the sixth with a
Brady McNab (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood (Frederick C.C.)) RBI-single through the left side to score
Kevin Sell (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) and cut the lead to 3-1. Dylan Borawski came into the game for Chestnut Hill in the bottom of the seventh and struck out two batters to pick up his first save of the season and preserve the victory.
Mike White (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) led the Golden Bears on offense in game one, finishing 2-for-3.
Eric Lane (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) added the only other KU hit during the opener. McNab finished game two 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Kevin Sell (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Ben Eppley (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley (Frederick C.C.)) added one hit and a stolen base.
Kutztown gets over a week off before returning to action to host a Pennslvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) doubleheader against East Stroudsburg University. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
