Video HighlightsKUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's basketball team moved to 11-0 at home this season with a 90-71 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division win against Lock Haven University on Wednesday night at Keystone Arena.
Dating back to last season, Kutztown (16-4, 13-3 PSAC East) has been perfect in its last 14 games while defending its home court. Including a 1-point road win at Lock Haven earlier this year, KU has swept Lock Haven to snap a previous four-game skid it has had against the Bald Eagles (10-11, 6-11).
A combination of efficient shooting and stout defense led the Maroon and Gold to victory. It shot 51.7 percent from the field while holding Lock Haven to 38.1 from the floor. KU led by 14 at halftime, built its lead as many as 27 in the second half, and made the most out of Lock Haven miscues with 28 points off turnovers.
Josh Johnson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) was dominant for the Golden Bears as he notched his second straight and eighth double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Notably, Johnson was a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line, the seventh player in program history to make at least 11 free throws in a game without a miss.
Junior captain and point guard
Austin Beidelman (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) was one rebound shy of his first career double-double, but despite missing the milestone, he showed off a very solid outing with 13 points, a career-high nine rebounds and six assists. He has scored in double figures in three of the last four games.
Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) and
Anthony Selby (Jersey City, N.J./Williamstown (Burlington County CC)) were the defensive strongholds for the Maroon and Gold. Lee, who has been solid for the entirety of his freshman campaign, came up with a season-high four steals in the contest.
Selby arguably had the play of the night as he chased down a Lock Haven player on a clear breakaway and proceeded to swat the ball off the backboard to save an easy basket. Selby was also disruptive in the paint as he held his counterpart to only a 3-for-10 performance from the field.
Lock Haven received most of its production from Shawn Church's 10 points and five rebounds, and Dave Garcia's 11 points and four assists. Former Golden Bear Tracy Peal contributed seven points and three rebounds in 17 minutes of play.
The Golden Bears will look to keep their home streak alive this weekend on Saturday, Feb. 6 against Shippensburg on Hall of Fame Weekend. Tip-off is slated to start at 3 p.m.
