Final Standings | Brackets | Individual ResultsEAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The 15th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team competed in three matches on Sunday's final day of the Hawk Flight Invite, capping the day with a win over Franklin Pierce.
As a team, KU finished seventh of 12 teams.
The Golden Bears (63-40) played their final seeding-match of the tournament on Sunday, dropping a 1096-1038 final to Caldwell. In bracket-style competition, KU fell to ninth-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson 4-2 but rallied with a 4-2 win over Franklin Pierce.
Three of Kutztown's five bowlers posted 200+ scores in the opener against Caldwell.
Taylor Strothmann (Maywood, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) led the way with a 227, followed by
Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) at 220 and
Kayla Maselkevich (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) at 219.
Kutztown posted 200+ scores in five of six matches against FDU, but saw FDU throw impressive games, including a 289 in game three in a 4-2 defeat. In the win over FPU, KU held on in multiple close matches in a 4-2 win.
Fitts led Kutztown all weekend and was named to the All-Tournament Team with the second-highest average for the tournament. On Sunday, she held a 23.0 frame average in 24 frames.
Lauren Stamm (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) held a 20.6 average on Sunday, Strothmann followed at 19.3, Maselkevich averaged 19.2 and
Jess Garzio (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) rounded out the team with an 18.2 average on Sunday.
Kutztown looks ahead to the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Sectionals on March 11-13 in Stratford, N.J.
