Kutztown Set to Battle for PSAC East Title on Wednesday after 80-55 Win Saturday

MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Kutztown University men's basketball team is a victory away from winning the school's sixth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division championship after Saturday's 80-55 road-victory against Mansfield University at Decker Gymnasium.

After Saturday's conference matchups, Kutztown is still tied atop the East standings with No. 21 West Chester University (21-4, 17-4) after WCU picked up an 81-63 road-victory over Millersville University Saturday afternoon.

With the win on Saturday, Kutztown clinched a first-round bye and will host a PSAC Quarterfinal game on Tuesday, March 1 at 7 p.m.

It also means that the Kutztown/West Chester season-finale matchup on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Keystone Arena will be for the East title, the No. 1 seed in the PSAC Tournament and the chance to host the PSAC Final Four.

The Golden Bears finished with five scorers recording double-digits in points. Ryan Connolly (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) led the way with 15 points and three assists.  Josh Johnson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) (12 points, three steals), Austin Beidelman (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) (11 points, seven assists), Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) (10 points, two assists), and Anthony Selby (Jersey City, N.J./Williamstown (Burlington County CC)) (10 points, five rebounds) all finished in double-digit scoring as well.

Ethan Ridgeway (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) had a game-high eight assists, which gave him 102 on the year to move into sixth-place in school history for assists during a single-season.  Beidelman is just one away from 100-career assists, which would move him into seventh-place all-time for assists in a season in KU history.

Kutztown jumped out to a 5-2 lead off a 3-pointer by Beidelman 1:33 into the game, and wouldn't look back for the rest of the afternoon.

The Golden Bears started the game off on a 32-13 run and went into halftime with a 40-28 lead. Kutztown continued its strong scoring-effort, ending the second half with a 40-27 advantage to give it the victory. The Golden Bears held a slight 40-34 edge in points in the paint

Joe Marshall  (16 points, five rebounds) led the way on offense for Mansfield.  Thomas Moore chipped in 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The regular-season finale on Wednesday against the Golden Rams is also the Golden Bears' Senior Night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Kutztown defeated Wester Chester 84-75 on the road in the teams' earlier matchup in the season.
