Lauren Stamm (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) was named Tournament MVP and the 15th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team donned two All-Tournament Team bowlers and finished third at its home Golden Bear Classic on Sunday afternoon at Bowl-O-Rama.
The Golden Bears (57-34) entered the day tied for first-place with a 9-2 record over the first two days of the tournament. They had a shot at a championship-match entering the day, but finished with a 1-2 record to finish in third place.
KU opened the day with a 4-2 loss to 22nd-ranked Sacred Heart, followed with a narrow 4-3 setback to 19th-ranked Saint Francis Brooklyn that took KU out of championship-contention, but rallied in the third-place match with a 4-3 win over Caldwell.
Stamm led the Golden Bears to a 10-4 record over the weekend. She held a 21.01 frame average to earn the Tournament MVP honor. Fellow All-Tournament Team member,
Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley), posted a 19.62 frame average over the weekend.
Joining the KU duo on the All-Tournament Team were Felician's Kaitlyn Buck, Mount Aloysius' Rayissa Amon, Sacred Heart's Sarah Rhodes and Franklin Pierce's Jessica Davies.
Saint Francis Brooklyn won the Golden Bear Classic, defeating Sacred Heart in the championship match.
Kutztown has one more regular season meet before the postseason begins. It travels to Monmouth's Hawk Flight Classic on Feb. 26-28 for its next competition.
