BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team dropped a tightly-contested Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game on the road Wednesday evening against the Bloomsburg University Huskies, 61-60, at Nelson Field House.
Kutztown led by as many as six points in the fourth on multiple occasions, but couldn't overcome a late Bloomsburg rally to end the game. The Golden Bears led for the majority of the final quarter before a late 3-pointer from the Huskies' Kristie Costantino cut it to 60-57 with 1:15 to play.
Still up by three with 25 seconds left, Kutztown was called for a flagrant foul to give Bloomsburg two foul shots and the ball. Morgan Klunk made both to bring Bloomsburg within one at 60-59. On the ensuing possession, Adreana Sadowski missed a layup attempt, grabbed her own rebound and laid it in for the winning basket with nine second remaining.
Kutztown called back-to-back timeouts to move the ball to the frontcourt, but missed a jumper at the buzzer in its heartbreaking finish.
Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) had her ninth double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and collecting 10 rebounds.
Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional) added seven points and chipped in six assists, making it the 11th game this year she has recorded at least five assists.
Klunk lead the way for Bloomsburg with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Sadowski finished with 13 points.
Bloomsburg got off to a fast 20-13 lead after the first quarter. The Huskies (13-9, 10-8 PSAC) extended their lead by as many as 12 points in the second before the Golden Bears (8-14, 5-13 PSAC) went on a 14-0 run to take a 29-27 lead at the half.
Strong defense by Kutztown held Bloomsburg scoreless for almost seven minutes during their run.
Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) had eight points, including two 3-pointer's during the outburst. It puts her at 70 made 3-pointers made this season, in KU season-single history, 11 shy of Rachel WIsemiller's school-record 81 during the 2008-09 season.
With her threes, Altomare (13 points) has now made a 3-pointer in 22 straight games.
Kutztown returns home to Keystone Arena on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. in a PSAC match-up against East Stroudsburg University.
