SPARKILL, N.Y. –
Madison Wampler (York, Pa./West York Area) scored twice in the second half to open up the eighth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team's lead as the Golden Bears earned a 4-0 non-conference win over Saint Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field.
Jessica Strohecker (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) scored for the first time since 2013 to open action in the eighth-minute.
Megan Tiwold (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) notched an assist on the play to give KU the early 1-0 lead.
Nearing the end of the first half,
Madison Stewart (New Castle, Del./William Penn) notched her team-leading sixth goal of the year less than three minutes before halftime to give KU a 2-0 lead at the break.
Wampler's pair of second-half goals marked her first goals since scoring two nearly a month ago on Sept. 5. She scored off a scramble in front of the net first, and then was assisted by
Julia Snyder (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) on her second goal to cap Kutztown's scoring Tuesday.
The defense was strong in front of goalkeeper
Chardonnay Hope (New Castle, Del./William Penn), not allowing a shot in the first half. KU outshot Saint Thomas Aquinas 24-2 and held an 11-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Kutztown returns home for the start of a four-game home-stand, beginning on Saturday, Oct. 8, against West Chester University. Action under the lights at Andre Reed Stadium begins at 7 p.m.
