SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team completed a school-record regular season on Saturday with its 4-0 shutout over Slippery Rock in its regular season finale.
Completing the regular season 15-3 and 13-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) thanks to winning 12 of its last 13 matches, KU set a program record for both wins in a regular season as well as PSAC victories.
In addition to the milestone victory, Kutztown also clinched the two seed in the upcoming PSAC Tournament that begins on Tuesday, Nov. 1. The Golden Bears will host Bloomsburg at Keystone Field in the Quarterfinals at 1 p.m.. KU defeated the Huskies 1-0 earlier in the year on Tuesday, Oct. 11 thanks to a
Cara Griffith (Dickson City, Pa./Scranton Prep)'s 37th-minute goal.
Coming off a 5-0 shutout in its Tuesday home-finale, the four goals give KU nine goals in a two-match stretch for the first time since the 2013 season. The Maroon and Gold had not scored at least four goals in back-to-back matches since their first two matches of 2010.
On Saturday,
Alaina Curry (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) opened the scoring in the 20th minute with her fifth goal of the season and the 24th of her career, as she is now one goal shy of becoming the sixth Golden Bear in program history to score 25 for her career.
Maddie Mohr (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) set up the score with her team-leading sixth assist, which ranks second in the PSAC, before doubling the Kutztown lead with her seventh goal of the year just 4:42 before halftime. Set up by senior
Katie Miller (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn)'s first career assist, Mohr tied Griffith for the team-lead in goals with seven, which put the two freshmen in a tie for seventh in the league.
Mohr's 20 points are fifth most in the PSAC.
KU put the game away with two goals in the opening 6:03 of the second half. Coming off her first score of the season on Tuesday,
Alyssa Ryan (North Wales, Pa./Wissahickon) made it two goals in two games. The sophomore was set up by freshman
Emily Zwiercan (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico), who moved just one assist shy of Mohr with her fifth of the year.
2:14 later, it was Zwiercan who completed the scoring with Kutztown's third goal in the span of 10:45 of game action. Like Miller earlier,
Felicia Silveira (Hampton, N.J./Voorhees) picked up her first career assist on the score.
Jenna Bracken (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) made three of her four saves from that point on to complete her fourth shutout in 2016, which moved KU into second place in the PSAC with nine for the season.
