WALLINGFORD, Conn. – The No. 17 Kutztown University women's bowling team opened play in the Sacred Heart Invitational with a win over Molloy as the Golden Bears finished the one-day event on Saturday 1-4.
Felicia Trievel (Reading, Pa./Wilson) sparked KU (5-10) to the 857-841 victory over Molloy with her best performance of the day, rolling a 184, while
Jess Garzio (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) was right behind her with a 183.
After falling to Franklin Pierce, 777-939, Kutztown recorded its best team-score in a 918-979 loss to the host, No. 14 Sacred Heart. The Golden Bears had two individuals throw 200+ games, with
Sydney Vigil (La Plata, Md./La Plata) rolling a 205 and
Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) throwing a 204 for KU's two-highest totals of the day.
Fitts also led Kutztown with totals of 191 and 194 in losses to Felician (837-959) and Caldwell (853-924), as she finished the Invitational with a team-high average of 182.4.
Garzio was second on KU with a 175.4 average, followed by Vigil in third at 172.4.
In JV action,
Melanie Aptaker (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South) led KU at 173.2 and
Alexis Case (Ocean, N.J./Ocean Township) at 164.2.
KU next competes at the Fairleigh Dickinson Jamboree, in East Brunswick, N.J., from Friday, Oct. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 30.
