READING, Pa. - The Kutztown University women's bowling team started off its 2016-17 season on Saturday with a 1-4 record at the Bud Whitman Memorial, held at Berks Lanes in Reading.

The Golden Bears finished seventh overall on Saturday out of 19 teams with a score of 4,444 in five baker matches.

KU started off the day with a 909-698 win over Virginia State before suffering close setbacks in its final four matches of the day to No. 15 St. Francis (PA) (857-887), Mount Aloysius (917-940), Youngstown State (876-906) and Caldwell (885-945).

Delaware State posted the highest team score of the day with a total of 4,977. Long Island, Adelphi, St. Francis (PA) and Franklin Pierce rounded out the top-five.

The All-Tournament team on Saturday featured Delaware State's Bri Macleod, Amber Macleod and Liz Burkholder. LIU-Brooklyn's Madison Lukosius and Adelphi's Rebecca Gotterbarn also made the team, while Christina Genova of LIU-Brooklyn was the MVP of the day with a 21.83 frame average.

The Golden Bears return to the lanes tomorrow at the Bud Whitman Memorial at 9 a.m. as it faces Medaille in the first of their five matches on the day.
