Golden Bears Fall in Three to California (PA) on Family Day

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team went to the wire in yet another thrilling first-set. KU fell by a mere three points as it dropped a 3-0 decision in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover contest against the California University of Pennsylvania Vulcans on Saturday inside Keystone Arena on KU's Family Day.

The first set of the match featured a very back-and-forth affair, as there were five lead changes throughout with the largest lead only being three points. Unfortunately for the Golden Bears, the Vulcans would end on a 3-0 run to take the set, 25-22.

The first set showed to be the closest between the two teams as California (PA) took the lead early on in the next two sets and would not let up its intensity. The Maroon and Gold would go on to fall to the Vulcans 25-18 and 25-16, respectively.

The Golden Bears found most of their offensive production from sophomore Brittney Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain (Lock Haven)), who notched 11 kills. Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) also paced the Maroon and Gold with a team-high 24 assists.

Notably, Conti contributed six digs in the contest, which puts her 10 shy of a career total of 1,000. Reaching 1,000 digs would put Conti 10th all-time in program history.

Madison Brake (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) also contributed 13 digs in the contest. Brake currently ranks sixth on the all-time career digs list. After this afternoon's contest, she now needs just 20 digs to crack into the top five.

Taylor Brown (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) had a nice defensive showing as she contributed two solo blocks, a career-high for the freshman. She also assisted on two blocks.

The Vulcans showed their ability to spread the offense around, as three Vulcans totaled double-digit kills. Seairra Barret held a match-high 16 kills, while Ashley Leto and Danielle Hayes each put up 10. California (PA) was facilitated by Megan Litoborski and her 42 assists.

Kutztown will look to snap its skid on Friday, Oct. 7, against Shippensburg University inside of Keystone Arena. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m.
