Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | by Bryan Salvadore, Sports Information Director

Golden Bears Never Trail in Road Victory at Clarion

CLARION, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's basketball team made its first six shots and despite a late charge by the host Clarion University, KU never looked back. Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) and Josh Johnson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) combined for 36 points to lead the Golden Bears to a 74-67 victory in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover game at Tippin Gymnasium.

The Golden Bears (11-2, 8-2 PSAC East) used the hot start to lead by double-digits on multiple occasions and never trail in their 11th win of the season. They could have protected the ball better with 25 turnovers, but shooting 46.7 percent, making 10 three-pointers and holding a +8 advantage on the boards helped make up for it.

Defensively, Kutztown entered as one of the top teams in the PSAC. It stood by its averages Wednesday night by holding the Golden Eagles (8-8, 5-5 PSAC West) to 35.4 percent from the field and 23.5 from downtown.

Lee made six of his first seven shots to score 15 first-half points on his way to a season-high 22-point night. The redshirt-freshman shot 9-for-13 from the field and 4-for-5 from downtown. He grabbed seven rebounds and tied for the team-lead with three steals. It marked Lee's best performance since posting 21 points and 10 rebounds on Dec. 4 in his first career start. Wednesday marked Lee's third straight game with three steals.

Johnson scored 14 points and is three shy of 1,000 in his career. He shot 6-for-11, made a three-pointer, and grabbed nine rebounds. He added three assists and two steals before fouling out late.

Anthony Selby (Jersey City, N.J./Williamstown (Burlington County CC)) nearly posted his first double-double at KU. He scored nine points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds. He swatted a team-high three blocks.

Austin Beidelman (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) led the team with four assists to go along with 12 points as Kutztown's third double-digit scorer. It was Beidelman's sixth double-digit scoring game of the season and in the last three games, he holds an assist/turnover ratio of 16/5.

Rob Agurs scored 11 of his 19 points from the free throw line, but was limited to 4-of-15 shooting from the field. Tim Gill scored 16 points and Andre' Anthony rounded out the team's three double-digit scorers with 12.

Kutztown aims to defend its 10-game home winning streak on Saturday, Jan. 9 against Bloomsburg University. Tip-off at Keystone Arena is set for 3 p.m.
