KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team suffered an 81-70 loss against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opponent Millersville University on Saturday afternoon inside Keystone Arena.
The Golden Bears (8-11, 5-10 PSAC East) were down by 10 after the first quarter after scoring just eight points. They improved in the second period with 18 points but still faced a 10-point deficit at the break, 36-26.
Millersville (12-7, 8-7) outscored Kutztown in third quarter and did not let the Golden Bears re-take the lead in the second half. Both teams could have handled and protected the ball better as the game featured 52 turnovers.
Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) had yet another impressive night as she led the team with a game-high 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) knocked down three 3-pointers for 13 points and two steals to aid the Golden Bears, while
Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional) finished with 12 points, four assists and three steals. She has hit a 3-pointer in all 19 games this season and has hit three or more in 13 games, including five of the last six. She has made 59 3's this season, sixth in KU single-season history.
The Marauders were led by Shelby Reimer and Celeste Robinson. Reimer had 17 points and six assists. Robinson had a double-double with 16 points with 12 rebounds.
The Marauders gained most of their points from the free-throw line, making 24-of-31.
Kutztown remains in PSAC East action on Wednesday, Feb. 3, against Lock Haven University beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside Keystone Arena. KU sits in sixth place in the East, a half-game ahead of Lock Haven for the final spot in the playoffs.
