NEWBERRY, S.C. –
Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) has opened her senior year on fire for the Kutztown University field hockey team. She netted her second straight hat-trick in 2015 on Sunday, her third in a row dating back to last season, to lead the Golden Bears to a 4-2 victory at Newberry College on Sunday afternoon.
Behm was named an All-American last year after scoring a career-high 19 goals. She has six goals through two games as Kutztown (2-0) is off to a great start in 2015.
Two first half goals by Behm gave KU a 2-0 lead at halftime. Newberry (0-2) got within one off a penalty stroke in the 46th minute, but Kutztown's
Megan Tiwold (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) kept the momentum in KU's favor with her second goal of the year for a 3-1 lead. Behm assisted on Tiwold's goal and finished off the hat-trick in the 64th minute for the eventual 4-2 victory. She has 13 points through two games this season.
Senior captain
Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) played well in goal with six saves. The penalty stroke goal was the first against her this season, as she has still yet to allow a goal from the field. Denlinger was subbed out of the game with a 4-1 lead.
Kutztown looks ahead to a much-anticipated rematch with Limestone College on Monday, Sept. 7. Last year at University Field, then-fifth-ranked Limestone pulled out a close 1-0 win over KU.
