#25 Kutztown Opens 2015 With Overtime Victory

News Coverage: WFMZ Highlights

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The 25th-ranked Kutztown University women's soccer team trailed at halftime, 1-0, but came back to defeat Millersville University in overtime, 2-1, in the opening game of the 2015 season from a hot and sunny Keystone Field. The season opener was also the first game in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

A tightly contested back-and-forth battle early in the game, neither team was able to break through until the 29th minute when Millersville (0-1, 0-1 PSAC) ripped a shot that ricocheted off the right post and into the back of the net.

Heading into halftime, Kutztown (1-0, 1-0 PSAC) trailed 1-0 but led in shots, 7-3.

The Golden Bears scored the equalizer when Taylor Burt (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) buried a header past the Marauder keeper after a free kick pass from Logan Kramer (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor (Arkansas State)) in the 53rd minute.

Following back-and-forth action for the rest of the second half, the teams were forced to head into overtime tied at 1-1.

KU made quick work of it in overtime. Just 63 seconds in, Alyssa Ryan (North Wales, Pa./Wissahickon) scored the game-winner on a cross from Alaina Curry (York, Pa./Dallastown Area).

Sophomore goalkeeper Deanna Messner (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) finished the afternoon with three saves.

Kutztown is back in action on Saturday when the Golden Bears travel to Charleston, W. Va. to take on the Golden Eagles at 1 p.m. from the Fields at Trace Fork.
