WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team utilized nearly an entirely new formation on Tuesday than it has used thus far this season. In an effort to improve defensively, KU's new look did its job and held 16th-ranked West Chester below its scoring average, but a Golden Ram goal in the 55th minute made the difference in Kutztown's 1-0 road loss.
The Golden Bears (2-2-1, 2-2 PSAC) and Golden Rams (4-1, 4-1) are two of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's (PSAC) top women's soccer programs, and most of the matchups between these two schools are decided by a goal.
West Chester averaged two goals per game entering Tuesday. Marissa Valenti netted her first goal of the season in the 55th minute to secure West Chester's victory.
All three of Kutztown's shots were on goal, but it was outshot by West Chester 9-3 for the game. KU freshman
Imani Taylor (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) made her first career start in goal and made seven saves while keeping KU within striking distance.
The Golden Bears return to action and to Keystone Field on Saturday, Sept. 19 for a PSAC match against Shippensburg University. Game time is set for 2 p.m. as KU aims to defeat the Raiders for the first time since 2012.
