READING, Pa. – The 2015 season came to a close Monday night for the Kutztown University and Albright College baseball teams inside FirstEnergy Stadium, the home of the Reading Fightin Phils. Kutztown took the annual non-conference matchup for the sixth consecutive time, 8-1.

Monday night marked the final game in the Maroon and Gold for seniors Drew DeShong, Brandon Cholish, Ricky Gorrell, Brandon Martinez, Brandon Hickey, Thomas Romano, and Travis Kreitz.

Kutztown finishes its season 19-22 overall, while Albright closes at 12-19-1. The Golden Bears tallied nine hits to Albright's four in the triumph.

Just as he has done countless times for the Golden Bears, Martinez led off the bottom of the first inning with a big-time hit.  Martinez snuck the ball into the left corner of the park, good for a stand-up double. Kutztown loaded the bases and plated three runs to take a 3-1 lead.

The Maroon and Gold continued rolling in the second, scoring two runs to build a 5-1 advantage. With Gorrell on second, Kreitz sent a long, sacrifice fly ball to the right-field fence. Gorrell tagged after the catch, and used his speed to round third and make it home before the throw came in from the outfield. Hickey followed up with an RBI-single through the right side, bringing home Clay Sebesky from second.

In the fourth inning, Kreitz made his last at-bat in the Maroon and Gold a special one. With a full count, Kreitz parked a 380-foot solo home run over the right field wall for his team-high fifth of the season, also tying his career best in a season.

The Golden Bears opened things up in the bottom of the seventh with two more scores. Joe DiWilliams cracked his first pitch for a single up the middle. Ryan Cox put two runners on for KU with a fielder's choice, as the Albright infield was unable to make the connection at second base. Ben Eppley's knock out to shallow right-center registered a two-run double, as the diving right fielder came up empty handed.

Kutztown utilized six different pitchers in the victory. Peter Masterson started on the mound and was credited the win, pitching two innings with a strikeout and wrapping up his freshman campaign 2-0. Eric Moul and Bobby Reddick each tossed two innings, combining for five strikeouts. Cameron Mathis, David Brown, and Matt Matricardi pitched an inning apiece.

Pitchers Paul Piromalli, Matt Swarmer, Eric Hartranft, and Pat Flynn didn't see any time on the mound, but each took their first at-bat of the season.

Eppley was the only Golden Bear to record a multi-hit game, going 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI. Matthew Armour notched KU's final extra-base hit with an double in the fourth. Hickey and Kreitz each recorded two RBI.

Martinez concludes his career ranked second in school history with 70 stolen bases.
