Softball Holds On for 1-0 Win in Resumed Game

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University softball resumed a previously suspended game against Millersville University on Tuesday afternoon. The game started up with two outs in the bottom of the third inning with Kutztown leading 1-0, and the Golden Bears held onto their one-run lead in a 1-0 victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action at North Campus Field.

Only two hits were recorded in the resumed game on Tuesday, one by each team. The lone run scored came two weeks ago on April 7, when Rachel Lawes hit an infield single to score Sam Fraser in the third inning. The game was then called due to rain during the next batter.

Danielle Amato hit a two-out double in the sixth, and even though Millersville started to make a charge with a single up the middle in the seventh, KU right fielder Sam Fraser made a spectacular diving play later in the inning to not allow the Marauders into scoring position.

Dominique Ficara picked up the complete game victory. She threw a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts on 94 pitches. Millersville's Brianna Andraos threw 87 pitches and allowed three hits in the loss.

Kutztown stands in second place in the PSAC East, but has yet to clinch a playoff spot due to multiple teams still needing to make up postponed games. KU is back on track to conclude its regular season on time with two road doubleheaders this weekend, beginning at Shippensburg University at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 24.
