KU-ESU Series Stats

BEL AIR, Md. – The Kutztown University baseball team trailed East Stroudsburg University by one run entering the seventh inning of both games of a doubleheader on Monday, but was unable to plate the tying run in 11-6 and 6-5 losses in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on the campus of Harford Community College.

The Golden Bears (9-3, 1-3 PSAC) dropped three-of-four games to the Warriors (12-2, 3-1) to open PSAC play in 2015.

Clay Sebesky hit his first career home run in the opener. KU was down 5-2 in the fifth inning when Sebesky went yard to cut Kutztown's deficit to two. ESU, however, answered with two runs in the following half inning to command a 7-3 lead.

Kutztown would not give up down the stretch though. Matthew Armour and Thomas Romano hit back-to-back RBI triples, and Dariel Richardson drove in a run as KU trailed 7-6 heading into the seventh.

East Stroudsburg hit three singles to open the seventh inning, forcing a pitching change for KU. The first ESU batter off the new arm slapped a bases clearing double to escalate the lead back to four runs and keep KU far away from a potential comeback.

ESU used the long ball to jump out to its lead in the nightcap, highlighted by a grand slam in the third inning for a 5-0 lead. Continuing its championship caliber, fighting spirit, Kutztown scored five unanswered runs to tie the game at 5-5 in the fifth inning. The Warriors had the last laugh though, as Dylan Tamecki hit his second homer of the game for the game-winner in the sixth inning.

Brady McNab and Ryan Cox each had three-hit games for KU in the final game against ESU. Ben Eppley and Brandon Martinez also had multi-hit games with two apiece.

Kutztown's doubleheader on Wednesday at Lincoln has been postponed, so KU will return to action on Friday, March 20 in its home-opener against West Chester beginning at 1 p.m.
