ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team closed out the inaugural Golden Bear Classic on Sunday with two wins and a tough tiebreaking loss in the third-place match to finish in fourth place.
The Golden Bears (53-42), ranked 18th in the country, opened Sunday's bracket-style baker matches with a 4-1, 956-856 win over Cheyney, and followed it up with a 4-3 win over 20th-ranked Delaware State (1350-1314). The day ended with a close matchup against 13th-ranked Saint Francis (PA), where after a tied match, SFU came away with a 129-83 win in the five-frame tiebreaker.
Junior
Kayla Maselkevich was one of seven bowlers to be named to the All-Tournament Team. She held a team-best baker average of 18.91 over the three-day invite.
Fairleigh Dickinson won the invite, followed by Adelphi in second. The Saint Francis-KU match was for third place, as the Red Flash finished third with KU in fourth. Delaware State was fifth, Cheyney was sixth, Franklin Pierce was seventh, Felician was eighth, New Jersey City was ninth and Caldwell was 10th.
The Golden Bears return to action in two weeks at the final Northeast Conference (NEC) meet of the season in Altoona, Pa.
