HTML Box Score | Video Highlights

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team overcame a dismal shooting performance in the first half to lead Lock Haven University by one with less than two minutes left, but in the final moments, Kutztown had its four-game winning streak snapped in a 59-58 road setback at Thomas Fieldhouse.

The Golden Bears (10-13, 9-10 PSAC East) remain in fourth place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division standings. Just two game separate fourth and seventh place in the East, as the top six teams make the playoffs.

Kutztown shot 6-for-28 (21.4 percent) with 15 turnovers in the first half and trailed by nine at the break (28-19). A 14-2 run early in the second half, kick-started by seven points from Kelsey Watson, gave KU a 35-34 lead just over five minutes into the second half.

The early run led KU to shoot 15-for-32 (46.9 percent) in the second half, but the game ultimately came down to the final possessions of the game. With Lock Haven up one with 1:11 to play, the teams traded layups to keep KU down one with 34 seconds to play.

KU missed two field goals in its next possession, and because it had just two fouls committed in the first 19:00 of the half, it needed to foul five times to put Lock Haven at the free throw line with five seconds left. Lock Haven missed the first 1-and-1 attempt, KU grabbed the rebound and called timeout, forcing it go to the length of the floor in 5.0 seconds for a chance to win. KU pushed the ball forward and got a contested, running three-point attempt at the buzzer, but it fell short.

Watson led Kutztown with 15 points, 11 in the second half, in 37 minutes. It lifts her to 499 career points.

Advia Campbell and Natalya Lee each scored 13, as Campbell notched her sixth double-double of the season and her second in the last three games with a game-high 12 rebounds. Campbell now has 949 career points with three regular season games to play. Lee pushed her career total to 799 points in her junior season at KU.

Alyssa Bonenberger grabbed 10 rebounds for 656 in her career, one shy of eighth all-time at KU.

Kutztown put itself behind the eight-ball with 15 turnovers in the first half, but calmed down with just four in the second half for 19 for the game. KU forced 14 Lock Haven turnovers.

Inside the paint, Lock Haven had nine blocks to Kutztown's one. Marrysa Moyer notched a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. J.J. Hilliard scored a game-high 18 points on 8-for-14 shooting, and Sami Lane finished with 16 points for Lock Haven's top three scorers.

Kutztown travels to Shippensburg University on Saturday, Feb. 14 for a 1 p.m. tipoff at Heiges Field House.
