Box ScoreWEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team played its first of two exhibitions against Division I opponents this preseason on Sunday, falling to Monmouth University, 84-52, at the Multipurpose Activity Center.
The Golden Bears trailed in the second quarter, 36-21, but used an 8-0 run to draw within seven points of the lead at the break.
However, Monmouth pulled away in the third and fourth quarters, despite a strong effort by the Maroon and Gold.
Junior
Gina Lewis (Atlantic City, N.J./Holy Spirit) led KU with 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field. She also grabbed four rebounds and blocked one shot.
Sophomore
Kalee Fuegel (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) filled up the stat sheet with seven points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals. Junior
Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) scored nine points and recorded a team-high 11 rebounds.
Freshman
Mariah Maciejewski (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) tallied eight points, four rebounds and a block. Junior guard
Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) finished with six points and one steal.
As a team, KU shot 12-for-16 (75 percent) from the free-throw line, but was just 19-for-64 (29.7 percent) from the field.
The Golden Bears will take on Lehigh University in their final exhibition on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. KU opens its regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 18 when it hosts Cheyney University at 5:30 p.m. inside Keystone Arena.
