Kayla Maselkevich (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) and
Lauren Stamm (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) combined for seven 200+ games to lead the 18th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team to a 3-2 record on Saturday, including two upsets over higher-ranked teams, on the second day of the FDU Jamboree.
The Golden Bears (18-6) are off to an electric start to their 2015-16 campaign. They entered the weekend with hopes of a .500 record against the best teams in the country, and are on pace to meet that goal. KU opened the day with a dramatic, 10-pin victory over third-ranked Stephen F. Austin (1028-1018). Three Golden Bears posted 200+ games, including a team-high 246 from Stamm.
13th-ranked Sacred Heart (876-879) and second-ranked Arkansas State (976-980) earned wins over KU, but the Golden Bears rallied for two wins to end the day. Stamm threw a 245 and Maselkevich posted her day-high of 242 in a 1045-792 win over Morgan State.
Saturday closed on a high note, a 978-886 KU win over 15th-ranked Valparaiso. Senior
Dakota May (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) led the way in the nightcap with a 236.
Amanda Wilson (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) played in the final two matches of the day and posted 200+ scores in each of them (214, 204).
Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) also stepped up late for KU, entering the lineup for the final two matches and posting matching 184s.
Stamm led the way with a 213.6 average on Saturday, followed by Maselkevich at 211.2.
Kutztown takes on 12th-ranked Saint Francis (PA) on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 9 a.m. to open the final day of the FDU Jamboree.
