Team Standings | Individual Standings | Match-by-Match Results EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The 18th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team compiled a 2-3 record on Friday in the first day of the Fairleigh Dickinson University Jamboree held in East Brunswick, New Jersey.
The Golden Bears head into the second day of the tournament sitting in 18th out of 26 teams. Arkansas State, Sam Houston State and Fairleigh Dickinson currently occupy the top three spots in the standings.
Kutztown (15-4) started off the day with back-to-back wins against Howard (888-773) and #10 North Carolina A&T (994-927). The Golden Bears subsequently dropped their next three games against #6 Sam Houston State (856-1042), #16 St. Francis Brooklyn (893-932) and #4 Fairleigh Dickinson (869-1076).
The Golden Bears defeated Howard in the opening game of the day. Senior
Dakota May (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) led Kutztown with a score of 222, followed by
Kayla Maselkevich (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) and Taylor Strothman, who bowled a 178 and 180, respectively.
Kutztown topped North Carolina A&T in a closely fought battle in its second matchup of the afternoon. Maselkevich led the way with a 229 and
Lauren Stamm (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) was close behind with an impressive 227. Strothman chipped into the win with a 202.
KU dropped its final three games of the day, all against top 20 teams. Stamm had a team-high 212 against Sam Houston State and senior
Becca Heltzel (York, Pa./West York Area) recorded a team-best 199 against St. Francis Brooklyn. Maselkevich recorded a score of 220 against Fairleigh Dickinson, her second game over 200 of the day.
Kutztown continues play against five more teams at the Fairleigh Dickinson University Jamboree tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 31, beginning at 9 a.m. against Stephen F. Austin. KU also takes on Sacred Heart, Arkansas State, Morgan State and Valparaiso.
