CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team scored two goals in the final four minutes of regulation on Saturday to defeat California University of Pennsylvania by a score of 2-0.
Kutztown (5-3-1, 5-3 PSAC) outplayed California (Pa.) (4-5-2, 4-4-2 PSAC) on the offensive end throughout the game, and capitalized with goals from
Morgan Staley (Landenberg, Pa./Kennett) and
Alyssa Ryan (North Wales, Pa./Wissahickon) within 30 seconds of each other in the 88th minute of the game.
Staley's goal at the 87:06 mark was her first of the season and was assisted by
Brooke May (East Berlin, Pa./Dover Area). The assist was the fifth of the season for May. She leads the Golden Bears in both assists (5) and points (7).
KU put the game away with a goal by Ryan at the 87:35 mark, just 29 seconds after the goal by Staley. It was the third goal of the season for Ryan, who leads the team with three goals and ranks second on the team with six points.
Goalkeeper
Imani Taylor (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) made her second start of the season and played great on the defensive end. She compiled two saves in the contest and recorder her first career shutout.
The Golden Bears played stellar on the defensive end, holding the Vulcans to two shots on goal and zero corners.
Kutztown held an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal over California (Pa.) and recorded eight corners to zero for the Vulcans.
KU's two wins over the weekend moved them up to seventh in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) standings at 5-3 and are only one game back of second place in the conference. Kutztown has won back to back games for the first time this season and has won three of its last four games.
Kutztown returns to the field on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. for a home game against East Stroudsburg University at Keystone Field.
