Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) scored her 50th-career goal on Saturday as the sixth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team won its fourth game in a row, defeating Slippery Rock, 5-3, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from a cold and rainy Andre Reed Stadium. The team dedicated the game to those affected by cancer on Play4TheCure Day.
Kutztown (8-3, 3-1 PSAC) and Slippery Rock (4-7, 1-3 PSAC) traded early goals when the Rock scored 1:34 into the game and
Madison Wampler (York, Pa./West York Area) scored for KU at 2:39.
Behm's 50th goal came in the 18th minute and put the Golden Bears up 2-1. She becomes the fourth player in school history and 32nd player in PSAC history to reach the milestone. She also ties the school-record with six-consecutive games scoring at least one goal. She finished the game with one goal and two assists.
Megan Tiwold (Northampton, Pa./Northampton),
Morgan Aldinger (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and
McKenna Conselyea (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) scored the next three goals for the Golden Bears to push the lead to 5-1.
Senior
Rayann Fink (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) tallied two defensive saves to bring her career total to 17. She is tied with Courtney Geibel for third in KU history for defensive saves.
Senior goalkeeper
Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) played outstanding and tied her season-high with 11 saves.
Slippery Rock's Megan McKay scored twice late in the second half to complete a hat trick. The Rock held a 25-20 edge in shots and an 11-6 advantage in penalty corners.
The Golden Bears travel to Bloomsburg for a pivotal PSAC showdown on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Steph Pettit Stadium.
