Golden Bears Battle Nations Best on Saturday

READING, Pa. – The 18th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team competed in six matches on Saturday, all of which were against teams ranked in the top 15 in the country as part of the second day of the KU Invitational at Hiester Lanes, the largest tournament of the NCAA season.
 
The Golden Bears (33-32) opened their day with less than 100-pin losses to seventh-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater (981-994) and 10th-ranked North Carolina A&T (909-984). Eighth-ranked Stephen F. Austin was victorious, 997-891, and even though Kutztown posted its best score of the day at an impressive 1,020 in its following match, third-ranked Arkansas State posted a 1,060 in a win. The final two matches of the day for KU were losses to 15th-ranked Valparaiso (868-892) and sixth-ranked Vanderbilt (842-900).
 
KU stands in 15th of 27 teams at the three-day tournament. It has a total pinfall of 11,215 for an average of 186.9 per game.
 
The Golden Bears, ranked 16th in the standings, have a rematch with Valparaiso, 15th in the standings, on Sunday, Jan. 25 in a best-of-seven style match.
