HTML Box Score KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team utilized a 13-0 run late in the second half to pull away from the visiting Lock Haven University Lady Eagles on Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional) played the entire game and led the Golden Bears to a 66-56 triumph off of a game-high 14 points.
After 4:42 of play in the first, Lee knocked down her first three-pointer of the game to push the Golden Bears (6-8, 5-6 PSAC) into the lead for the rest of the half. The junior finished the first stanza 4-for-4 from the field and 3-for-3 from beyond the arc to help her squad to a 33-28 advantage at the break.
Lock Haven (4-10, 3-7) chipped away at the Golden Bears at the onset of the second half until it earned its largest lead of the game (45-42) with 8:28 remaining. The Maroon and Gold responded with fire, executing a 13-0 run lasting 4:11 to go up 10 points with under five minutes to play.
Brianna Morales (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic (Northampton County Community College)),
Kalee Fuegel (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy), and
Nicole Donahue (Wall, N.J./St. Rose) sunk free throws down the stretch to preserve the KU victory.
Lee attempted only two shots from the field in the second half, but did nail her fourth three-pointer of the game, tying her career high set against Washington Adventist during her freshman season. She finished the game with a season-high-tying 14 points, five rebounds and a team-high four assists.
Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) was the only other Golden Bear scoring in double figures with 12, which improves her streak of scoring 10+ points to nine of the past 11 games. She also brought down six boards in 27 minutes of action.
Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) was the team's leading rebounder with eight, adding nine points on offense and a game-high three blocks on defense. Morales shot 5-for-8 from the free throw line to finish with nine points and added three assists, while Donahue was perfect from the field for seven points.
Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton Area) contributed five points, seven boards, including the 600th of her career, and three assists.
After missing the last three games, Fuegel entered the lineup in the second half and provided a solid boost. The true freshman hit all five of her free-throw attempts and her only attempt from the field to finish with seven points, while securing three clutch steals.
Lock Haven featured three players scoring in double figures, led by Maryysa Moyer's double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds). Sami Lane added 10 points with a team-high four assists and Emily Daugherty tallied 12 points with two three-pointers.
The Maroon and Gold remain home this week, hosting Shippensburg University on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 5:30 p.m. from Keystone Arena. The Golden Bears upset the Raiders in the first round of the PSAC playoffs last season.
