KUTZTOWN, Pa. – 12 members of the Kutztown University field hockey team were recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on Wednesday afternoon as selections to the 2013 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad.
Kutztown was also honored with a Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division II National Academic Team Award as a program with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Of the 12 Golden Bears honored, all three seniors were included for the fourth time of their careers.
Jamie Koenig (Springtown, PA/Palisades),
Erin Reynolds (York, PA/Central York), and
Elly Skinner (Prompton, PA/Honesdale) have now earned academic honors in each of their four years in the Maroon and Gold.
Along with the senior trio, nine other student-athletes were named to the squad, ranging from freshmen to juniors. Included were
Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown),
Analyse Gaspich (Palmyra, Pa./Lower Dauphin),
Samantha Jacobson (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville),
Liz Mikitish (Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area),
Kayla Ruth (Schwenksville, Pa./Souderton),
Rachael Sanders (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg (Limestone)),
Julia Snyder (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area), Jessica Strohecker and
Megan Tiwold (Northampton, Pa./Northampton).
Kutztown improved by three overall wins in 2013 and was in playoff contention until the final game of the season. It had two players earn all-conference recognition, and
Reynolds earned her second career All-America honor.
