KUTZTOWN, Pa. – A trio of veteran Golden Bears led the Kutztown University women's basketball team past Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division rival Millersvile University, 77-67, on Saturday afternoon from Keystone Arena in the annual Play4Kay game.
Kutztown (9-14, 6-7 PSAC E) achieved victory on Saturday with the help of a combined 54 points and 27 rebounds from
Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional),
Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton Area) and
Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape).
Lee led the Golden Bears with 19 points, her highest since the season-opener when she dropped in a career-high 22. The sophomore guard shot 50 percent from the field along with two three-pointers and snagged a game-high four steals. Her seven boards ranked third on the team.
Campbell scored 18 points with 10 boards for her second consecutive double-double, making that six on the season (team-leading). She swatted a game-high three blocks and added another three steals. The junior shot 61.5 percent from the floor, sinking a career-high eight field goals.
Bonenberger also recorded a double-double, her fifth of the season. The junior knocked down 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, including a 7-for-8 performance from the charity stripe. Bonenberger was unusually active from beyond the arc, shooting 2-for-4, a career high for three-pointers. She also tied a career-high by dishing out five assists, a game-high, and added three steals.
Fresh off a PSAC Freshman of the Week honor,
Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) dropped in nine points, adding in five boards and three steals.
Neither team could break away in the first half, as the largest lead for both teams was only four points.
Both squads shot efficiently in the first 20 minutes. KU hit 50 percent from the field (15-for-30) with three triples, while Ville went 12-for-26 from the field and hit four three-pointers. Millersville (12-11, 7-6 PSAC E) did have the advantage in the rebounding column, out-boarding KU 20-13.
With just under 15 minutes left to play in the second half and the score in favor of the Golden Bears by three (48-45), KU opened up a 16-4 run to grab the largest lead of the game (63-49). The Marauders were able to bring it back within six, but the Golden Bears held off for the 77-67 triumph.
Kutztown tied a season-high with 25 converted free-throws and finished the game shooting 48 percent from the field (24-50). Millersville did hold a slight rebounding advantage (40-38), including an impressive 17 offensive rebounds.
Ville was led by Carly Gallagher's game-high 20 points. Yasmin Cooper recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards, and Alexis Martin rounded out the double-digit scorers with 14 points.

Janet Malouf her 300th career win. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Keystone Arena.
