Long-Range Shooting Woes Trouble Women's Basketball in Loss to Millersville

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team could not find a rhythm from downtown on Saturday, as the visiting Millersville University Marauders secured the 71-58 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory from KU's Keystone Arena.

Kutztown evens up at 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC with the setback, while Millersville improves to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

The two squads were tight heading into the locker room, with the visiting team holding a slight 30-28 advantage at the half. With 13:35 left in the second half, Ville's Carly Gallagher sparked an 11-2 run that opened the Marauders to a 10-point lead. Millersville closed out the game with an 11-4 run to notch the victory.

Notably, the Golden Bears will look to address their three-point shooting moving forward, as the squad went 4-for-27 from long range today and are now 6-for-45 in the last three contests.

Sophomore Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) finished two points shy of her career high, knocking down a team-high 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting. She filled out the stat sheet with two rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist.

Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional) and Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton Area) rounded out the Golden Bears in double figures. The duo each shot 50 percent from the field to combine for 23 points. Bonenberger notched 12 points and four boards, while Lee led the team in both rebounds (8) and assists (5).

Watson and senior Nicole Donahue (Wall, N.J./St. Rose) connected on the give-and-go a handful of times in the paint to set up easy buckets. Donahue tallied six points and ranked second on the team with seven boards.

Gallagher scored a game-high 25 points for the Marauders, adding nine rebounds and four assists. MU's Yasmin Cooper was a force down low on the boards, nabbing 20 rebounds and ranking second on the team with 14 points.

The Maroon and Gold head to Seton Hill University next Tuesday, Dec. 16, for PSAC action beginning at 5:30 p.m.
