CHEYNEY, Pa. – A total of 18 Golden Bears hit the court on Saturday in a team effort to lift the Kutztown University women's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Cheyney University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action. The Golden Bears only surrendered 28 total points over three sets to get the win on the last game of the season.
Kutztown concludes its season at 14-16 overall and 8-14 in the conference. The Golden Bears were only one game back from the 9-13 Shippensburg Raiders for the fourth and final spot out of the East Division in the PSAC postseason.
The Maroon and Gold won by set scores of 25-11, 25-11, and 25-6 over Cheyney (1-31, 0-22 PSAC). The team's .353 attack percentage was a match-high for the season.
Senior
Danielle Van Buren (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) and junior
Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) accounted for 23 of the team's 40 kills. Van Buren tallied a game-high 12 kills, while Stringer recorded 11. Van Buren's line of 12 kills, one error, and 17 total attacks for a .647 hitting percentage is a team-season-high for a minimum of 12 kills. Stringer also led the team with a game-high five blocks.
Libero
Madison Brake (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) led the defense with 14 digs, and setter
Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) notched 18 assists.
Madisyn Kleinfelter (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon)'s five service aces was also a team-season-high and she added five assists.
Conti produced 956 assists in 30 matches this season, which ranks eighth in the school record books for season statistics. In just two seasons, the sophomore has accumulated 1,995 assists, bumping her up to fifth in the career record book.
Senior
Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach (Fairleigh Dickinson)) only played three seasons in the Maroon and Gold, but her 1,036 career digs ranks seventh in school history.
With 58 career solo blocks as a junior, Stringer jumps in at No. 10 on the record books.
