KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's swimming team swam race-for-race with one of the top women's-only programs in the conference on Friday night. The meet came down to the final race of the night, which fell in favor of California University (PA) for a final score of 107-97 at the Keystone Pool.
 
The Golden Bears (2-2) opened Friday's nights meet by winning four of the first five events. Heading into the 11th and final event, Kutztown trailed the Vulcans, 96-91. KU had three teams in the five-team 400-free relay, and with the top three finishers earning points, KU needed to win the event and have another KU team finish second or third to earn enough points for the win. Even though Kutztown finished second and third, California (PA)'s A-team ended KU's hopes of the win with a victory in the final event.
 
Kutztown posted six Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) times, one of which was new. Despite not winning the event, senior Zoe Sianis (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) touched the pad in the 100-free in second place in 55.68 seconds, a new conference time for her team-high fourth of the year.
 
Madi Bleiler (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern), Bridget Perdoch (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), Jessica Bleiler (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) and Caitlin Davies (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) opened the meet with a win in the 400-medley relay. Katherine Triggs (York, Pa./York Suburban) won the 1000-free and Davies took home gold in the 200-free in an existing PSAC time of 2:01.97.
 
Sianis won the 200-IM in a season-best time of 2:14.29, and Jessica Bleiler (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) also turned in a season-best time in a second place finish in the 200-fly. She also won the 500-free.
 
The Golden Bears have quick turnaround to their next meet. They travel to Long Island, New York on Saturday, Nov. 8 to take on LIU Post beginning at 1 p.m.
