EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team took down four of the five teams it faced on Friday afternoon on the opening day of the FDU Jamboree, hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University.
The Golden Bears (12-3), ranked 12th in the season-opening national poll, opened their tournament against eighth-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater. Despite the 25-pin setback (898-863), Kutztown rallied to win its next four matches of the three-day tournament. It defeated Franklin Pierce (920-898), Felician (860-826), Cheyney (873-817) and Bethune-Cookman (897-748).
As a team, KU ranks 15th of 26 competing teams with a total pinfall of 4,413. Sam Houston State leads the way with a 4-0 record and a pinfall of 5,107.
Kutztown primarily used a five-player rotation throughout the day, three of which averaged more than 180 pins per game. Juniors
Lauren Stamm (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) (185) and
Taylor Strothmann (Maywood, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) (184) led the way for the Golden Bears along with senior
Christine Gordon (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) at 181.4.
Juniors
Kayla Maselkevich (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) and
Dakota May (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) aided the KU attack with 172.6 and 167 averages, respectively.
The Golden Bears look ahead to a nationally-ranked slate on Saturday, Nov. 1, as five of their six opponents are ranked in the top 15. Action gets underway at 9 a.m.
