Women’s Volleyball Sweeps the Visiting Warriors

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team only needed three sets to down East Stroudsburg University on Tuesday night, defeating the Warriors 3-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Keystone Arena.

The Golden Bears controlled the match throughout, winning by scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-17. Kutztown (12-14, 6-12 PSAC) never trailed East Stroudsburg (6-21, 2-16) by any more than three points.

Aly York (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) played an all-around solid game, leading the team in both kills (9) and digs (14), while adding two service aces. The senior outside hitter has stepped into a much larger role on the defensive side as of late, recording her three-best dig performances of the season in the past three matches (16, 16, and 14 tonight).

The rest of the attack was run through Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach (Fairleigh Dickinson)) with eight kills, Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) with seven, and Danielle Van Buren (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) with six. Zandria Zielinski (York, Pa./York Catholic)'s seven kills tonight is her second highest output this season, and the middle hitter added two blocks and two aces.

Setter Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) dished out 32 assists with nine digs and a block. Emily Kopinski (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and libero Madison Brake (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) combined for 17 digs, while Tori Wakelee (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) added two kills and four digs in the third set.

Kutztown's 11 errors on the attack is the lowest for the team since Sept. 8, which was a 3-0 sweep over Albright in the fifth match of the year.

Abby Welch notched a game-high 12 kills for the Warriors, and Annabelle Charlton contributed 19 helpers and 14 digs.

The Maroon and Gold remain home this weekend, beginning with a PSAC match against Millersville this Friday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.
