Due to it being the last home Saturday game of the year, the Golden Bears honored
Jess Campbell (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley),
Mariah Dimm (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield),
Sam Costello (Westfield, N.J./Westfield),
Hanna Fenstermacher (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove),
Rubi Mink (West Milford, N.J./West Milford), and
Taylor Higgins (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) during the pregame ceremony for senior day. All six individuals have been four-year members in the Maroon and Gold and have contributed major success to the program.
In the 24th minute, freshman
Morgan Staley (Landenberg, Pa./Kennett) sent in perfect ball off of a free kick that found
Alaina Curry (York, Pa./Dallastown Area)'s head at the back post to give Curry her fifth goal of the year and tie the score at 1-1. Five minutes later, the Golden Bears took the lead after
Megan Frailer (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) successfully converted a penalty shot for her first points on the season.
Kutztown was not content with its one-goal lead going into the second half, and a trio of seniors connected to piece together the third goal in the 67th minute. Fenstermacher sent a ball in to the top edge of the box from the center-back position that found Mink on a bounce. Mink one-touch flicked it on to a streaking Costello who snuck in behind the IUP defenders and slotted it past the keeper.
Costello has been on a tear with 12 points in the last four games.
KU outshot its opponent 22-12 and held the corner kick advantage, 8-7.
Deanna Messner (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) recorded seven saves in net for the Golden Bears, and Campbell finished out the final three minutes between the pipes.
Kutztown fought through 23 fouls to win its seventh-straight contest. KU improves to 10-3 overall and 9-3 in the PSAC, while IUP falls to 8-5-2 and 7-5-1.
The Maroon and Gold will square off against Gannon University at home this Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.
