READING, Pa. – The 12th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team started its season off on a positive note with five wins on Saturday on the first day of a two-day home invitational at Berks Lanes.
Kutztown (5-0) took down Penn State Altoona (833-685), Pitt-Bradford (784-665), Medaille (906-821), Mount Aloysius (933-590) and Felician (884-834). Of the 16 teams in the tournament, KU rated sixth in total pinfall (4340).
Junior
Lauren Stamm (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) led the Golden Bears with a 19.51 baker average in 50 frames. For her efforts, she was named to the 2014 KU Fall Baker All-Tournament Team.
Fellow junior
Kayla Maselkevich (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) stepped up and posted an 18.2 average in her 50 frames, followed by senior and returning starter
Christine Gordon (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) at 17.2.
The Golden Bears conclude the opening invitational tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 19, with team-style matches beginning at 9 a.m. at Berks Lanes. KU is scheduled to face Saint Peter's, New Jersey City, 10th-ranked and conference-foe Saint Francis (PA), Cheyney and Adelphi.
