PITT-JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team held an outstanding 36-3 shot advantage over the University of Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats in a 1-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory from the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon.
Kutztown (8-3, 7-3 PSAC) fired off 36 total shots, with 19 shots-on-goal, the highest in both category since the 2011 season. KU recorded 12 corner kicks, while the Mountain Cats (0-12, 0-10) did not see any.
Freshman keeper
Deanna Messner (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) made two saves in the winning effort. Messner and the Golden Bear back line now have their third shutout in a row and six on the season.
After a scoreless first half,
Logan Kramer (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor (Arkansas State)) would net the eventual game-winner six minutes into the second half off a cross into the box from
Sam Costello (Westfield, N.J./Westfield). Kramer now has two goals on the season and Costello leads the team with four assists.
Kramer and Costello combined for nine shots-on-goal, while
Markell Reid (Shortsville, N.Y./Canadaigua Academy) notched three.
Rubi Mink (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) and
Dana Wong (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) each tallied two shots-on-goal.
UPJ keeper Timi Shiock recorded 17 saves in a busy game.
The Golden Bears hope to make it six wins in a row this Tuesday, Oct. 14 when they travel to Clarion University for a PSAC game at 6 p.m.
