KUTZTOWN, Pa. – On the final home meet of the season, the Kutztown University women's swimming team honored its four departing teammates on Senior Day by defeating Millersville University, 148-110 on Saturday afternoon at Keystone Pool.
Kutztown (3-3) held a pre-meet ceremony to celebrate its quartet of seniors;
Elizabeth Metz (Rosemont, Pa./Radnor),
Emily Scordato (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte),
Zoe Sianis (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing), and
Natalie Carr (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area).
Metz and
Caitlin Davies (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), however, ruled the lanes against Millersville (3-6), grabbing gold in every event that they hit the pool. Davies took first in the 200-free, 50-free, & 100-free, while Metz won the 1000-free and the 500-free. Metz's time of 10:55.31 in the 1000-free qualifies her for PSAC's and would rank sixth all-time in KU history.
Samantha Scialpi (West Pittston, Pa./Pittston) also made her way into the Kutztown record books in the 100-yard backstroke. Her first-place finish of 1:03.15 is the 10th best time in KU history.
Kutztown dominated the butterfly events on Saturday. In the 200-fly,
Jessica Bleiler (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) took gold and
Melanie Felkner (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) grabbed silver, and in the 100-fly, the Maroon and Gold finished in the top-three places. Bleiler finished first,
Rachael Burke (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area) grabbed second, and Felkner came in third.
Sianis secured the trifecta in her last meet at Keystone Pool, finishing first in 200-IM, second in the 100-free, and third in 100-breast. Carr finished second in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke.
Numerous Golden Bears set season-high marks against Millersville.
Rachael Burke (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area) set career-highs in the 100-fly and 200-free and Scordato did the same in the 100-breast. Freshmen
Vicky Ceasar (Coplay, Pa./Whitehall) (50-free),
Aimee Watkins (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) (500-free, 1000-free), and
Caitlyn Falguera (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) (200-back) all posted season-highs.
Kutztown will compete once more before the PSAC Championships, traveling to East Stroudsburg on Saturday, Feb. 1 for the ESU invite, scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
