LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's swimming team enjoyed its return from its winter break in Florida with a 152-106 win over Lock Haven University on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Bears (2-3) won 10 of the 14 events against the Bald Eagles (2-3). Still getting adjusted to swimming indoors and preparing for its final two meets before the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships, Kutztown raced great on Saturday and was determined to get back to winning form.
Junior
Jessica Bleiler (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) posted the only conference-qualifying mark in her win in the 200 fly. She posted an existing mark of 2:17.28 in the 200 fly, one of two individual wins for Bleiler (100 fly).
Fellow junior
Caitlin Davies (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) won a meet-high three events. She won the 200 free by more than two seconds (2:00.44), the 50 free (25.73), and the 100 free (55.19). Davies already has qualified for the PSAC Championships in all three events.
Senior
Elizabeth Metz (Rosemont, Pa./Radnor) won two events, both by wide margins. Her win in the 1000 free was by 12.01 seconds, and her win in the 500 free was by more than nine seconds. Davies and Metz finished 1-2 in the 200 free.
In the 100 back,
Samantha Scialpi (West Pittston, Pa./Pittston) (1:07.86) and
Ellen Groeneveld (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) (1:08.43) finished second and third, respectively, as they finished within a second of each other.
Natalie Carr (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) won the 100 breast and finished second in the 200 breast, as she was within a second of winning the 200 breast. Senior
Zoe Sianis (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) also won an event, hers coming in the 200 IM in 2:19.81 and a margin of victory of 5.99 seconds.
Kutztown won the 200 medley relay. In a tight race, Scialpi, Carr, Bleiler, and Davies teamed up to win the event by .65 seconds with a final mark of 1:56.19.
The Golden Bears have one dual meet remaining with their home finale next Saturday, Jan. 25, before closing out their regular season schedule on Feb. 1 at the East Stroudsburg Invite.
